DAB+ CU ↔ Bitrate Calculator

Converts Capacity Units (CU) to bitrate (kbps) and back for DAB+, per ETSI EN 300 401. Supports all EEP-A and EEP-B protection profiles, with an automatic audio quality hint (speech, news, music, hi-fi). Works offline and installs as an app.

What it does

Converts Capacity Units to bitrate and back for DAB+ sub-channels, for both Equal Error Protection profiles of ETSI EN 300 401.

  • Two-way. CU → bitrate and bitrate → CU.
  • EEP-A. Protection levels 1-A to 4-A, 8 to 192 kbit/s in steps of 8 kbit/s.
  • EEP-B. Protection levels 1-B to 4-B, 32 to 192 kbit/s in steps of 32 kbit/s.
  • Full table. Every bitrate for the selected protection level, with an indicative quality and typical use.
  • Offline. Works without a connection and installs as an app. English and Italian.
  • Private. No tracking and no external requests.

Where it helps

When you plan a multiplex or agree capacity, you need the CU cost of a bitrate at a given protection level, and the other way round. The calculator gives it instantly, from tables 9 and 10 of ETSI EN 300 401 V2.1.1. Quality and typical use are indicative only.

Quick start

  1. Open the app.
  2. Choose the profile (EEP-A or EEP-B) and the direction.
  3. Pick the protection level and the CU or the bitrate: the result and the table update at once.
